Physician Communication Training & Assessment
Project Mission: To provide certified osteopathic physicians with meaningful training and assessment in communication skills and theory.
In 2008 the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Board of Trustees approved the recommendation by the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists to implement an Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) process for physicians. In conjunction with OCC, the eighteen Certifying Boards are required to incorporate assessment of the Core Competencies.
This project relates specifically to the development of a solution for the AOA Certifying Boards to be in compliance with the fourth Osteopathic Core Competency requirement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills. The training will adhere to all AOA Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements and conform to best practices and standards for high stakes assessment. The program will be delivered online and will have strong assessment components.
Meaningful Measurement has a long history of creating communication training and assessment. Meaningful Measurement Associates are nationally recognized teachers and scholars in the fields of health communication, interpersonal communication, communication assessment, persuasion, listening, management, instructional design, and adult learning, as well as psychometrics. Communication scholars collaborate with osteopathic physicians every step of the way to ensure there are adequate resources and opportunities to learn that are useful and productive for better patient care.
Dementia Care Job Survey
The National Certification Board for Alzheimer Care is an independent organization existing for the sole purpose of providing proper examination, certification, & registry of those who provide dementia care. A Job Task Analysis is fundamental to creating a fair test. A large scale, national survey provides rich data to understand the daily practice of dementia care, and the role of the educator who provides training.
Understanding frequency and importance of the tasks allows educators to design and refine the training offered to dementia caregivers, and administrators to have fair and reasonable expectations of personnel.
All information collected is anonymous and reported as an aggregate. A report of the JTA findings will be made public.
The survey is available online by clicking here.

PERSUASIVE COMMUNICATION: BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL SPEAKING
Clear communication is essential. It is the vehicle by which we accomplish goals and coordinate activities. This course is designed to enhance public communication skills. You are assessed and given a personal plan for improvement. Presentations are videotaped and later viewed privately with the instructor. Topics include principles of communication, analyzing and motivating listeners, establishing credibility, and improving delivery.
Chicago Magazine recently featured the class in their article "A Brand-New You."
PERFECTING YOUR “ELEVATOR SPEECH ”: SELLING YOURSELF IN 60 SECONDS
Take advantage of every opportunity to make a potent, positive impression with a well-designed IntroPro©, or “elevator speech”: a clear explanation of your credibility, unique assets, and the value of the services you have to offer. In this class, students will use the building blocks of communication theory to create their own effective IntroPro©, and then practice and perfect their delivery of this introductory greeting. Using the IntroPro© with great regularity, whether at a conference, networking event, soccer game, commuter train, or a cocktail party, provides many additional (and sometimes unexpected) occasions to prospect clients or business relationships.
